Philip was born in West Texas and raised in both South Florida and Cape Cod. Philip has lived in Boulder, Boston and St. Thomas, USVI. He moved to Santa Fe in 1975 and attended Santa Fe Prep and later graduated from the University of Colorado.

When he is not in the office, Philip enjoys spending time with his two children Nicholas and Taylor and traveling. An avid sports fan, Philip currently serves as New Mexico Governor of Red Sox Nation.
