A fourth-generation Santa Fean with over 40 years experience in real estate brokerage and development, Wally is one of the most respected business people in Santa Fe. In a very real sense, he is “Mr. Santa Fe” – both of his grandfathers were mayors of Santa Fe; his godfather was football coach Brady Magers, for whom Magers Field north of the Plaza is named; his mother – “Shorty” – made history as one of Santa Fe’s most popular teachers for 30 years before becoming a Realtor herself; his grandfather built the original St. Francis Hotel, and the stories go on and on. If a town as laid-back and egalitarian as Santa Fe could have a dynasty, the Sargents would be it. During his teen years, Wally had a dance band called Wally Sargent and His Major Keys. Wally played piano, and Sam Pick, former mayor of Santa Fe, was one of the saxophone players. Wally graduated from the Colorado State College of Education. He taught school for seven years, sold real estate on the side then went full-time into real estate. Wally has served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Association of Realtors, President of the Santa Fe Festival of the Arts and, in 1999, was awarded the Realtor Century Award in appreciation for exceptional leadership and distinguished service for 40 years!
