Living in Los Alamos

Los Alamos is home to some of the world's most famous ancient civilization sites such as Bandelier National Monument. With its over twenty-three thousand acres of designated wilderness, Bandelier takes visitors back in time to the preserved homes of the Anasazi people. Moreover, Los Alamos and its history are on display throughout numerous museums that intrigue old and young, including The Bradbury Science Museum and Los Alamos National Historical Museum. For the outdoor enthusiasts, Los Alamos also offers world-class alpine skiing at Parajito and numerous trails throughout the Jemez on which to hike and bike.

Geographically, Los Alamos lies on the Pajarito Plateau on the eastern side of the Jemez Mountains, in the transition between the mountain peaks above, and the Rio Grande River valley below — which bottoms out at about 5,400 feet.
