Los Alamos Real Estate Market
With a population of roughly 18,000 people, Los Alamos real estate and its surrounding communities are home to the most internationally diverse population in the State of New Mexico, due primarily to constant influx of scientists, researchers, and technicians who work at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Living in Los Alamos
Los Alamos is home to some of the world's most famous ancient civilization sites such as Bandelier National Monument. With its over twenty-three thousand acres of designated wilderness, Bandelier takes visitors back in time to the preserved homes of the Anasazi people. Moreover, Los Alamos and its history are on display throughout numerous museums that intrigue old and young, including The Bradbury Science Museum and Los Alamos National Historical Museum. For the outdoor enthusiasts, Los Alamos also offers world-class alpine skiing at Parajito and numerous trails throughout the Jemez on which to hike and bike.
Geographically, Los Alamos lies on the Pajarito Plateau on the eastern side of the Jemez Mountains, in the transition between the mountain peaks above, and the Rio Grande River valley below — which bottoms out at about 5,400 feet. Los Alamos' yearly average rainfall is about 19 inches while the average winter snowfall is about 14 inches in town and over 100 inches a year on Pajarito Mountain.
