Matt Desmond has lived and worked in Santa Fe, NM since 1991. His real estate career began in 2005 with French & French Fine Properties. In 2012, he obtained his Qualifying Broker license and he has managed other brokerages in the State.
Matt has a diverse education and background. While attending school outside Boston, MA he earned a BA in Biology and completed a year of Exercise Physiology research. Post college he worked with a Biotech start-up in Santa Fe doing molecular toxicology research.
Matt's career path took a turn in 2005 when began his career in real estate. In addition to selling residential real estate, Matt took several unique opportunities to broaden his knowledge in the profession. He was a licensed general contractor, giving him a unique insight into the industry. Matt also had the opportunity to work as a Project Developer in the energy industry, building utility scale wind and solar projects. He consulted for a Transmission line developer and for a national Right- of-way company, permitting and building projects throughout the Southwest. These roles included negotiating option agreements for land, technical research, permitting and interaction with various specialists including biologists, engineers, attorneys, etc.
Matt assisted in the drafting of the Best Management Practices (BMPs) for the State of New Mexico and a Renewable Energy Ordinance for Lincoln County. He worked as a consultant for Santa Fe County and has worked with utilities acquiring easements in rural Northern New Mexico. As a part of these efforts, Matt has been involved with several of the state’s largest landowners and frequently interacted with landowner associations in the central and northern parts of New Mexico.
Matt has always maintained a vibrant business selling real estate and has always ranked as one of the top brokers in Santa Fe. He built his business utilizing his knowledge of technology and marketing - including the internet and social media.
Outside of real estate, Matt is an avid Triathlete and has completed 29 Ironman triathlons. In their free-time he and his wife enjoy coaching youth sports including, Triathlon, Track and Field and Cross Country running.
