The Housing Trust is working with local businesses to educate the public on affordable housing programs for first-time homebuyers.

Serving the Community with Partnership

For some first-time homebuyers, a home of their own may seem like just a dream. But the saying "teamwork makes the dream work" can make all the difference. Recently, the Housing Trust teamed up with Santa Fe Properties, the Santa Fe Place Mall, and Legacy Mortgage to educate the public on available programs for affordable housing.

The Housing Trust has affordable housing programs designed to help first-time homebuyers in Santa Fe County. However, as a nonprofit with a limited budget, the Housing Trust has to make each dollar count which means marketing these programs can be problematic. Enter Dean Martinez of Santa Fe Properties with a practical idea originally tested in nearby Denver, Colorado.

The Power of a Great Idea

Formerly a realtor in Denver, Dean Martinez saw a need for homebuyers to know their options – especially when it came to affordable housing. With a bit of brainstorming, an idea struck. What if local businesses interested in a strong community worked with local nonprofits to market housing programs? The idea was shared, and an event was planned and organized. Now an Associate Broker in Santa Fe, Dean shared his idea again.

Getting the Word Out

With a bit of planning, the Housing Trust organized an event for this past Saturday. Santa Place Mall kiosks displaying informative materials were staffed by employees from the Housing Trust, Dean Martinez of Santa Fe Properties, and Annette Alvarez of Legacy Mortgage. With back to school shopping in full swing, the timing was perfect, the location was busy, and the response was exciting.

Many people had no idea the Housing Trust offered Affordable Housing programs and were happy to learn more. With the positive reaction and a great marketing opportunity, the Housing Trust is moving forward with plans for an annual agreement with the Santa Fe Place Mall.

A special thank you to the Housing Trust, Legacy Mortgage, and Santa Fe Place Mall for their participation in such a worthwhile event.
